News from the Deiterings!!

Good morning friends!

The day has gotten off to a beautiful start here in Archidona. It is misty and cool and when we woke up there were thunder clouds up on the mountains. But the sun was shining too and we saw a rainbow crossing one of the peaks. The morning sun always shines on the tops of the mountains across the river before it reaches us. What a peaceful sight. Another reason it is peaceful is that Kevin has taken the three older kids out to the farm to get started on the day’s work. That is one of the treats of summer, going with Daddy first thing in the morning.

The month of June was especially hard for our family. First I came down with a fever that we thought was dengue, then we found it was really Hepatitis A. And two weeks later, to the day, Kevin had it too. It was an entire month of sickness and was very discouraging at times. It was a reminder of how we need to depend on God’s care for us and the strength He gives for each day. Now we are much better and I like how Kevin put it: “Feels like we are coming out of a fog.” We are enjoying eating good food and playing hard again. Please pray that we will be careful not to do too much as Hepatitis is known for relapses.

One thing that kept us sane through all this was Sam’s visit. He spent two weeks helping with the work we didn’t feel up to yet, playing with the kids and being a real companion and friend. Thanks to his help, the roof of the garage/house was put on in two days!

It seems to me, who is not a part of the work each day, that progress is obvious on the shed/ house now. The floor is finished, the roof on, and the walls are two meters high. Kevin is making windows this week. We are grateful for the diligence of our workers and glad to see things moving ahead.

A quick update on our little ones: the boys are finally selling the chickens they have worked so long to raise. There is a small restaurant up the road that sells the chicken soup our area is famous for. People come all the way from Quito to have a taste, and right now they are tasting OUR chickens. The owners have been by each day this week to buy from the boys. Little Evie, in an attempt to be like her big sister, can be seen carrying around paper and crayons and looking through books very studiously. But still her favorite thing is to have her feet rubbed. And Tessa is just surviving until school starts. She can’t wait to be in kindergarten.

We send our love to all of you and hope you are having a wonderful summer! Thank you for your prayers, friendship, and support.
