Christmas celebrations in N’baranat
Christmas brought a celebration of joy to our little church in N’baranat. Joy in the reading of the story of the birth of our Savior and understanding the gift of God’s plan of redemption; and joy in the celebration of fellowship of the believers in this small community. There was a tremendous turnout as we prepared a dinner together and played games for young and old. We were able to spend the entire day there in the village as over 150 came for our special event. For some this was the only form of Christmas celebration they would have and there were many present who would not normally come for our Sunday services. The goat stew and chai were eaten heartily and the enthusiasm for the games was high. Maybe next year the men will have a chance at Tug– of-War, but this year the women (who carry most of the firewood and water) were the champions! We attempted games with the young children, many of whom had never stood in an organized circle—much of the entertainment came from the three white women trying to teach the ‘Hokey-Pokey’! New friends were made and the fellowship of believers was encouraged by this fun day during a time when many are struggling to feed their families as our community is entering a second drought in a two year period. Pray for the believers of this community that their testimony may shine brightly in this difficult time.
NEW
BEGINNINGS!
We are excited to announce the engagement of our son Joshua to Abigail Rupsis! Our time this Christmas was made even more special as Josh revealed his intentions of asking Abby to be his bride. He chose a beautiful location on the top of Mt Kulal to propose.—she said, yes! They are planning a wedding in Illinois December 2011. This will give us a target date for our next furlough. We are thankful to see this young couple desire to serve the Lord with their lives and seek to honor Him in this next step of their lives and very pleased to welcome Abby into our family.
PRAYER AND PRAISE
We’re thankful for another year to minister here in the Mt Kulal community!
We’re thankful for a wonderful family visit over Christmas & safe return for all.
Please pray for the people struggling with dry conditions in N. Kenya brought about by La Nina—many are contemplating herd losses for the second time in two years and there has been 100 % crop failure.
We bring praise for the encouraging fellowship and those seeking to understand God’s Word at the N’Baranat church.
Praise God for the successful surgery of Moses who is now able to walk and attend school again! Early December brought the return of Moses to Gatab after undergoing surgery at a distant mission hospital. There he was able to have reconstructive surgery that has enabled him to walk again and return to school. Thank you to the many who generously gave to make this possible for him. We pray that the love of Christ which was manifested through the willingness of His people to take care of those in distress, would one day sink deep into the heart of this young boy.
We ask for prayers as we seek to open the new Haven Home later this year—much work lies ahead.
