MOST RECENT NEWSLETTER
OVERVIEW OF MISSION WORK
MOST RECENT NEWSLETTER:
Dear Friends and
Family,
Thank you all so much
for praying for us. We made it home safe and sound and are now reunited
with Lucy and enjoying sunny FL!
We got another year's
worth of visa for KZ.
Noah was able to take
his SAT with his copy of his passport, although the proctor was hesitant.
We all had a great
rest and are praising God for all of his provisions for us.
Thanks again for your
prayers,
Molly for the Heinz's
Dear Friends and Family,
We are almost ready to
come home for a long awaited furlough. Wanted to ask you to pray for some
urgent matters and catch you up on the last month or so of our life and
ministry.
Please pray for our
visa's to be issued! We have had our passports at the visa office for some
time and they were suppose to have been done last Friday. Now, they won't
be done until Sunday or Monday. Please pray that it would be on Sunday as
our plane tickets are for early morning Monday and we can't leave without
our passports! We are always dependent on the Lord for His help in keeping
us here. This year is no different.
We successfully passed
the city sticker evaluation. Praise God and thank you for praying for this
yearly event that shouldn't be a problem, but always is potentially.
Amanda and Noah are
taking the SAT test on Sat early. Please pray for the proctor to accept
Noah's copy of his passport, as the original is in the visa office. He
doesn't have any other photo ID. Also, that they would have clear minds and
do well. Amanda is trying to improve her score to win an academic
scholarship. Noah, just for practice and to encourage Amanda.
Pray for God's little
flock here while we are gone. We are back in the church building and the
water has been back on and consistent. Some of the new people haven't made
it back to church since we are having it in the building. Pray for them to
have a desire to know the Lord and to want to worship with His people on
Sundays for encouragement and spiritual growth.
We had a gas furnace
installed at the church building, of course it had been hot for 2 weeks, and
those 3 days we had a freak snowstorm, and it was cold! yikes! Now we are
all set for when the gas pipe comes down the street. We hope they'll get it
done this summer while we are gone.
Kazakhstan is proposing
a new religious law which would make all religions illegal except for Islam
and Russian Orthodox. Please pray that God would not allow this to happen.
The vote goes before Parliament in June. Attached at the bottom of our
newsletter is the letter the head of the Russian Baptist Union wrote that
explains the intent of the law.
Hopefully we'll be
travelling on Monday. Please pray for travel mercies for us.
Thank you all for your
support, prayers and love,
Molly for the Heinz
Family
To everybody who loves God
and concerning for the
God's business in Kazakhstan!
Believing in the power of prayer and having so many
bright examples from God's answers to prayers, we ask you to unite in a
prayer for God's business in Kazakhstan.
James 5:16
April 2, 2008 The House of Parliament accepted a
Project of the Law "About changing and putting some additions to the Law of
the Republic of Kazakhstan regarding the questions of freedom of believers
and religious unions" to be worked on.
The proposal was written specifically to limit the
freedom of believers. We can't give all of the comments but we want to
highlight some so that you would understand what to pray about and why we
have this alarming situation.
1. Article 4-1.
Missionary activity. (New wording)
1. Citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan,
foreigners, and persons without citizenship (named "a missionary") report
missionary activity on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan after
being registered.
Any missionary activity of the person, who is not
representatives of religious unions, and also without being registered as a
missionary, is forbidden.
2. The Government
of the Republic of Kazakhstan establishes the number of missionaries
allowed for the following year.
A special assigned commission distinguishes that number of
missionaries around the country - in cities, towns and capital taking into
account the suggestion of the local government."
Our commentary: This is a
full intervention into the lives of believers and legalizes limitation on us
with fines while we are accomplishing the Great Commandment of our Lord
Jesus Christ. Here is one more statement:
«It is prohibited to spread the subjects\items of
religious meaning, as well as literature and other forms of religious
propaganda in the buildings of State Establishments\organizations and
companies, the establishments of education and health and as well as on
their territories.
The distribution of the items of religious
meaning, godly literature and other informational religious materials
among the citizens of the country in public places, in public transportation
or in the streets and also the visiting the living places with the same
purpose is allowed only due to initiative and agreement of the citizens
themselves.
3. Article 4-3.
Religous groups (here they talk about registration of the small groups)
«Religious group doesn't have a right:
1) to establish
organizations to publish religious literature and produce the items\subjects
of religious meaning.
2) to establish, to
rent and to keep\support open places for public masses the places for
church services and religious meetings and also the places of worship of the
followers of other religions (places for worship and others)and other cultic
buildings;
3) to preach and
distribute credo outside of religious groups».
4. Article 5.
"Secular kind of State education and religious education"
«The state system of education and raising of
children in the Republic is separated from religious unions and has a
secular character.
Parents and persons substituting for them have a right
to raise their children according to their convictions and beliefs, but it
is not allowed to have insistent actions to attract children to be involved
in religion. Religious training mustn't influence and harm to a child's
physical, psychological and moral health development.
Organization of and holding of the ministry for
religious meetings or group meetings for the people younger 18 years
old is permitted only with a written agreement of both of parents or legal
substitute of parents.
5. Volunteer offerings.
Article 16:
«It is not allowed for religious unions to get any
financial and other offering from anonymous persons or from foreign
citizens and organizations.
Religious unions must accept offerings using the
special controlling-counting machines.
The report on offerings is holding with
representatives of the local government.
With this letter we appeal to all of the believers
to fast and pray April 21st for God's business in our country.
.With brother's love
Frants Tissen
April 16, 2008 ?.
Pease to you, dear brothers and sisters, all who have been praying and is
still in prayer for God’s work in Kazakhstan.
We have received enormous amount of letters from you as
a respond for our request to pray for Kazakhstan and possible amendments to
the Law on Religion. It is good to see,
how big our Family is!
We have been greatly encouraged by God!
The situation stays the same. Public opinion has being
forming by mass media. Chief Editor of one of the local newspapers “Tselina”(New
Soil) has put an article with the name of the Evangelical Baptist Church
among the names of banned terrorist organizations at the end.
We have come
up with some comments toward proposed amendments to the new Law on Religion
and have officially asked the head of the working group that responsible for
the proposal of the new Legislation to meet for a dialog. Please,
pray for this to
happen.
As far as we know - this is not official information -
they will try to pass this new Legislation in the Mazhilis (Lower Chamber of
KZ Parliament) in the beginning of June and right then in the Senate from
where it should go to the President of KZ to sign.
There is peace
in our hearts. We believe that the Lord reigns. Thank you for your support.
Please, continue praying for this situation and for the people of God in
Kazakhstan.
With love,
France

March 2008
Dear Family and Friends,
We are one month away
from furlough and getting very excited about the prospect of seeing all of
you again this spring and summer. We also dream of the smooth roads, the
great food, chick fillet, and the history channel.
Amanda
is sorting (give away, throw away, store and take with) and packing her room
up in preparation for starting school this August at Clearwater Christian
College. It is fairly certain that she will be able to room with Lucy in
the dorm. She will be studying nursing. Noah is training with the
International School track club. They are training for a 1 mile exhibition
run in May. Unfortunately it will be held after we leave. We are all
training for another trip down the Grand Canyon trail when we visit my mom
in July. Noah is hoping to go all the way to the river and back while the
rest of us go to plateau point.
We have been meeting on
Sunday's here at our house since the end of January. (Photo Right) Well,
this week the water pipe finally thawed and we will be meeting for the first
time at the church next Sunday. We have been averaging around 22 people
every week and our little living room and addition although fine for the
service are very crowded for our fellowship meal time. So we will be glad
to get back into the church where we have a bigger room.
Three weeks ago Keray
Ata (Photo Right) went into the hospital with a gallbladder attack. They
recommended that he have
surgery but he refused. He stayed 10 days in the hospital and came home. I
went over to visit and find out where he was and met his wife and one of his
daughters. Kooderbye also went by to visit. Last week I was surprised to
see him waiting on the road by his house with his wife when I came to pick
him up for church. His wife is a devout Muslim and always goes to the
Mosque service every week. So I was expecting her to be very uncomfortable
during service. She was a very sweet lady, listened very attentively and
even participated in our praise and prayer time. We presented her with a
copy of the New Testament (green book in photo) in Kazakh and were again
surprised that she was touched and extremely grateful to get it. She said
the Mosque service is in Arabic and so is the Koran so she can't read it.
She was teary with anticipation and thankfulness about reading the New
Testament and true to her word this week Keray said she had been reading it
all week. Why does God never cease to amaze me? I shouldn't be surprised
at His wisdom and power but I am.
Our
neighbor's mud-brick shed collapsed and destroyed part of our fence at the
church this week. Not what I need right now I thought but we went over to
shovel away some of the debris and while we were there the water came back!
Kooderbye was happy because he can stop hauling water. Now that the water
is back he has been cleaning the church non-stop to get it ready for next
week. Our neighbor is a widow in her 70's who has 4 or 5 small huts on her
property that she rents to college students (Kazakhs) from China. Her
son is a Mullah in another city and she has to run her rental business and
maintain everything with the help of her renters. She apologized profusely
and the next day tore down the rest of the shed so that we could rebuild the
fence. On Friday, we bought new fence panels and loaded up the truck and
welder and fixed the fence good as new.
Pray for the salvation
of the 3 unbelievers who are now attending regularly: Adilbek (age 23) and
his wife Amangool (20), and Ulan (24)who is married to Dinara (22). Molly
had a great visit with Dinara this week. She is pregnant and due
in mid-June. Ulan's family is very Muslim and his mother has been very hard
on Dinara. Praise God that Ulan has softened and is willing to attend
church and is learning to be a better husband. Two of our other young
people Fatima (24) and Damira (24) are hoping to leave for America in
mid-June to attend university. At this point it is still not definite.
They don't know at this point what city or state (?!!) they will be in but
we are steering them toward Georgia, Illinois, or Florida. Anyone
interested in helping these girls adjust to life in America?
Pray for Byeram and
Goolmira. He is in the process of finalizing plans to accept a new driving
job. Their 1st grader Muldir is planning on attending the international
school near our house next year on a full scholarship. She studies in
Kazakh now in a public school. She will be studying in English at the
international school. The decision about the scholarship will be made in
mid-April.
Finally pray for our
final preparations to leave and for the protection of our little flock in
our absence. God has been encouraging us lately regarding how things will
go here this summer and for that we are grateful.
Thank You for all of
your prayers and support.

February 2008
Hello Friends and Family,
We are enjoying hearing
from many of you through Christmas cards arriving! Thanks to everyone who
remembered us! We enjoy so much hearing about your lives. If you haven't
sent us a card or newsletter yet, don't be shy! Kazakh New Year's is coming
in March, so it will arrive just in time for the New Year! HAHA
We have had some new
people coming to our church lately. This has been such a blessing to us.
They have brought some friends and family that aren't sure what to think
about Jesus, yet. Please pray for salvation for these interested ones, and
growth for the rest of the body. It is interesting to see these new people,
as they had met us 3 years ago, and knew about our little congregation. Now
they live closer to us, and came to worship with us.
An interesting story
about Kazakhstan health care. Our friend, Kooderbye, fell hard on the ice
and hurt his arm. After a couple of days of swelling, we convinced him to
go to the hospital to make sure it wasn't broken. Thankfully it wasn't.
However, to help with the swelling they suggested that he buy some vodka and
rub it on the arm often. He is a recovering alcoholic! He came right over
to our house to ask us what we thought as he didn't think that was a wise
treatment for him!! We agreed with him! Yikes
Our other friend Karay,
who is 70 or so, was suffering from a headache for 4 days. He came to
church just miserable, saying that his high blood pressure was bothering
him. Kevin gave him some Tylenol. After 20 minutes he was totally pain
free, bright eyed and alert and wondering what this wonder drug was? Sadly,
they don't have good pain relievers. Tylenol used to be in the pharmacies 5
years ago, but we haven't seen it recently. We gave him Ibuprofen for some
leg pain in the past, and he took it to his doctor and asked about it. The
doctor had never heard of it nor knew what it was. They do have other
medicines, but not the latest and best. We constantly thank God for his
protection of our health, and ask you to continue to lift us up in your
prayers too. If anybody is thinking they want socialized medicine for the
US, think about this country. It is a prime example of how terrible health
care can get by the government providing it for everyone!
The winter. With this
harsher winter has come water pipe problems. Our church doesn't have water
as some pipe down the line is frozen. We've been meeting in our home the
past month. This has been wonderful, as everyone comes early and stays
later, since it is warm and comfortable. It is really hard to keep the
church warm in this cold weather. We have to heat with coal over there, and
it is hard to keep it at a regular temperature. The gas line has finally
come to the main road, and now we have to wait for the pipe to come down the
road so that we can connect. It is a long process as only houses with all
of their documents correct can sign up, and they have to collect money from
everyone. Two very difficult tasks in this country. We are hopeful though
that it will come this summer.
Finally, we are coming
home this summer on furlough. We hope to see many of you as we visit all of
our supporting churches. As the time gets closer, we will let you all know
exact dates we will be where. At the end of August, we will be leaving
Amanda in America with Lucy at Clearwater Christian College, and go back to
Kazakhstan with just Noah! That will be a big day. We are excited for her,
but know how much we will miss her.
Please pray especially
for Kevin these next few months. He has more work than he has time to do it
in. He has many documents and projects he needs to get done with the
government here. Preparations for leaving the church for the summer.
Preaching and teaching and keeping everything working. Planning for our
furlough. Pray for wisdom, health, and peace for all of us.
The kids and I have it
pretty easy. We just have to get done with school and do our regular
schedules. Pray that we would finish strong, and be able to help Kevin as
much as possible.
One last prayer
request. The president of Kazakhstan spoke out against missionaries in his
address to the nation. He was speaking about Muslim extremists, but only
said missionaries. Since then, there has been another round of
investigations into churches and foreigners. We have our documents in
order, but pray for God's protection for us and our church as this new wave
of checking goes through.
Thanks for your prayers
and support.

Dear Family and Friends,
We added a small addition on to our home here in
Aug-October. I will be adding photos of the construction process to
the web site over the next few months.

We have
turkeys now in KZ that they've learned to raise to be big and delicious.
However it's one size fits all. So on Thanksgiving when we had 17 for
dinner, a 22 pounder was great, but on Christmas day, when it was the
intimate 5 of us, a 20 pounder went a long ways!
WE got so much snow for Christmas. About a foot
after 2 snows. Amanda and Noah are our shovelers. They love the
snow, but are tired of shoveling every day. Ahhhh. We had a wonderful
time catching up with Lucy. Yes, we brought Lucy home for the
Christmas holidays! It was so happy around the house with her here.
We have all missed her so much.

Kevin bought a new CD in Kazakh that has the Christmas
story on it. It's a Kazakh speaking with some Kazakh like music in the
background. He bought a bunch of them with Christmas cards so that our
members can give them out to whomever, mostly their relatives, but some
friends. They are a hard people group. We'll see what happens.
Sowing, sowing, sowing!
A new young couple have been coming to church the past
three weeks. They are Kooderbye's relatives. A couple in their mid
30's. Really friendly which is unusual for Kazakhs. Usually they are
very reserved until you know them very well. Kevin has
been teaching on the incarnation of Christ! Yikes that is a meaty
sermon for the first timers. The most difficult thing for Muslim's is
who Christ is. They got a great lesson, and seemed to be really open
and thinking about it! Kooderbye has been evangelizing to them slowly
for several months. It was great that they came. They live pretty far
away, however, about an hour's drive, so we'll see what happens. Pray
for their salvation. Adilbek, and Amangool, (king of righteousness, and
healthy flower respectively). They are in the back row on the far left
in the photo.

Pray for the gas pipe to be brought down our street to the church building.
They have finally installed a new main and 50 of the 250 houses on
our street have to pay ahead for the pipe to come down and hook up to us.
The tricky part is they all have to have their documents in order. We
have our's, so that brings it down to 49!
Thank you all for your prayers and support of our
ministry here in Kazakhstan.
Happy New Year.
Yours In Christ,
Kevin, Molly, Amanda and Noah

October 2007
Dear friends and family,
Wow, our monthly
newsletter has turned into a quarterly one this month. Sorry for the long
absence. Many of you have written and inquired about us, thanks, so here is
the latest prayer and praise from KZ.
Time marches on and
Lucy, our oldest daughter went back to FL for her second year of college.
She is putting down roots and feeling more a part of America and the school
campus which has encouraged her immensely. She is doing well and we are all
praising God for the time we had together in the summer, and for her
spiritual growth as she faces life without her family there for every
decision. We started our homeschool in Aug.
Our pastor and his wife,
Howard and Beth Dial, from Berachah Bible Church in GA came for a visit at
the end of August. We had a good time of catching up, showing them our
ministry and lives, and encouraging one another. Thank you Berachah for
sharing them with us! They brought pictures, news, and goodies with them.
All very much welcomed. After the goodies were gone we were left with
wonderful plastic containers much needed as I found out today when I went to
get some dried milk and a few mice had eaten through the foil pouch! With
the harvest comes the field mouse! An ever present reminder of the wonder
of God's creation in the bounty of the harvest and the curse of sin because
of the fall.
September brought
missionary friends on their way to America from a more remote part of
Kazakhstan. We are a good stopping point, and it was fun to share some time
with them before their furlough started. Canning tomatoes was also part of
that month.
In family news, Amanda
is busy applying to colleges, working on her various crafts, and working on
the addition with Kevin. She would build with him all day every day if she
could. She loves to swing a hammer, paint and climb up the ladder! Ahhhh
She's a very well rounded individual. Ha I have to keep her working on her
school though or she will slip out and help her Dad at 3pm even though all
of her subjects aren't quite accomplished. She will start tutoring 2 Korean
children starting Friday in English. Now she has added lesson plans to her
busy schedule.
Noah has had too much
time on his hands for a long time. Praise God he was given permission to
join the cross country team for the international school across the street.
The coach is the chess club teacher of 11 year olds also. Noah is great at
chess, so after playing him after practice once the coach asked Noah to help
his chess kids. That has been a nice activity for him. They all know he is
a missionary kid, so hopefully he'll have some opportunities with these
kids.
Our church is steady and
constant. Keray Ata announced on Sunday that his 15th grandchild was born.
He is the only believer in his family. Pray for salvation for all of them.
We were shocked by the
news that Mels, who left to go back to Uzbekistan for his document renewal
supposedly for 10 days, got married! We don't know anything else. We're
praying for him to stay in the Word, and hopefully that he married a
believing wife, and if not that she would be saved. I don't think he'll be
coming back to KZ anytime soon as he didn't have a home, or really a steady
job, or citizenship. We'll keep you posted.
Noorgelda, whom we wrote
about last time and had hoped could relieve Kevin next May while we go on
furlough, had said he would start coming to help preach and intern under
Kevin in Sept, but we haven't heard from him yet. Please pray for him to
come, or for God to bring another man to our church for Kevin to teach.
We have finally met some
of Kooderbye's extended family and Goolnara's. We pray for more
opportunities to meet with them and tell them about our Lord, and live out
the Christian life before them. They are so thankful to us for helping
Kooderbye and Goolnara go through the rehabilitation program. We give all
of the glory to God for their changed lives. Of course the family doesn't
really understand that, but they do see such a difference in their sober,
clean, and humble relatives. Pray for these people to be saved also.
Kazakhstan is going
through a huge inflationary time. The land prices have gone up as we
reported in previous letters, but now food prices have gone up. A loaf of
bread was 25 cents and now it is close to 75cents. They didn't seem to care
about land prices or corruption, but our friends said if Parliament didn't
do something about the high price of bread, the Kazakhs will revolt!
Interesting what people will and won't put up with. More people are making
their own bread now I think.
Thank you for your
prayers on our behalf. May the Lord Jesus Christ bless you as you obey and
honor Him in your lives.

September 2006
Dear Family and Friends,
The Lord has reminded us of His power again today on
our first Sunday back in Kazakhstan.
First of all we saw what capable hands our church
building and grounds have been placed in Kooderbye. When we left he was
stillworking at the alcohol rehab center. He decided to come and be part of
our fellowship and become the new caretaker at the church. He has done a
great job taking care of the trees, bushes, and lawn as well as sweeping the
sprawling concrete areas and cleaningthe inside of the church and he does it
so joyfully.
Second, our new caretaker came just as it was time
for our old caretakers (Yulia and Misha) to move into the home they bought
last winter.Yulia is expecting a baby in mid-November and they have been
remodeling their house this summer.
Third, we saw how much Byeram has grown in his
teaching. He did a great job on 1 Thess 5:16-18. Both Byeram and his wife
Goolmira have new jobs. They both work for a couple that has come to teach
at the International School in Kalkaman. Byeram drives them to work and
picks them up. Goolmira takes care of their 16 month old baby.
Fourth, we were happy to see Goonara’s two sisters
and their two 5 year old daughters. Zhana and her daugher Aseeya attended
once before we left. They are in the photo of the church which we left with
you. Gowhar and her daughter Laura came for the first time this Sunday. She
can only come once a month because of her work schedule. They are both
believers and they come to our church for the teaching. They live about 50
or 60 kilometers away and have to take a bus. It is interesting that they
live in a village to the west of us where we plan on buying some land for a
future (second) church plant. We still don’t know exactly where that will be
but if enough people from that village start coming we will know. Zhana and
Gowhar told us that there were many people in their village but no churches.
It is also the area where the old factories from the city of Almaty are
being relocated.
Fifth, we are so happy to be home with our church
family again and being part of the slow but essential work of church
planting. Our lives are knit together and God slowly adds more strands of
yarn. We see the living stones being built up as a spiritual house for a
holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through
Jesus Christ. We love this job! This day has just reminded all of us of
that.
Only one life,
‘Twill soon be past;
